In 1715, a Spanish fleet headed by the galleon San Miguel left Cuba for their destination in Spain. They went through hurricane season, however, in order to avoid pirates, and this led to the sinking of the entire fleet of 11 ships. 7 of these ships were later found.
However, here's the twist.
There was so much gold, silver, and jewels on board, that the treasures collectively reached over 2 BILLION dollars in today's money. The bulk of the treasure was said to have been on the San Miguel, which has not yet been found.
